Biblical mothers: not a job for the faint of heart – The United Methodist Church

It has been 100 years since U.S. President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday in May as a special day to honor mothers, especially those who had lost their sons to war.

Did you know Anna Marie Jarvis and fellow members of the Methodist Episcopal Church led the charge to make Mother’s Day an official observance?

The church still plays a prominent role in Mother’s Day. Woe to the pastor who decides to ignore the Mother’s Day traditions his or her flock enjoys. So how does a leader keep the focus on worshipping God, while celebrating and honoring the gifts of mothers?
