Your Best Super Bowl Party Yet!

superbowl
On Sunday, February 5, 2017, millions of people will gather in their homes to watch commercials and party. In between the commercials, there is a football game as well.

The UMW has a way to make Super Bowl LI your best party yet, even though the Redskins had to stay at home. We are selling Liliana’s empanadas for you and your football-loving guests to enjoy. These things have way more filling than Tom Brady’s football, and that includes organic beef, organic chicken, or organic vegetables! Stay tuned as we may add other flavors as well.

We will be selling these award-winning, worthy-of-the-Lombardi-trophy gems after each of the services over the next three weeks – in the coat rack area. The prices are $10 for a box of 6 large (5″ empanadas) and $5 for 6 small (3″ empanadas). The proceeds of this sale will go to the UMW’s short-term mission fund, which we use to send Pender women to spread the gospel of Jesus to other countries where football means something entirely different.

Thanks for supporting us!

Help Us Help the Homeless this Winter

Hypothermia Center Planning Meeting

2017 Winter Season

“If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:17-18

Pender United Methodist Church is once again honored to be hosting a Hypothermia Center in coordination with Fairfax County Fairfax Area Christian Emergency and Transitional Services (FACETS).  FACETS is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless in Fairfax County.   Last winter there was an average of 30 to 40 guests per host church.  FACETS rotates week-to-week between faith community hosting sites. Pender UMC hosting week is March 12-19.

Volunteers and donations needed for the Hypothermia Center to be hosted at Pender during the week of March 12-19th.

We will need volunteers as: greeters, meal preparers/servers/clean-up, overnight security, van drivers, and laundry care. Donations of specific food items, toiletries, gently used winter clothing (adult), monetary donations are also greatly appreciated.

Please sign up at the Sign-Up Center in the church lobby or online via the Sign-up Genius by clicking on this link or contact Jim Scheurer at either jimscheureriii@gmail.com or at 540-454-4092.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?

When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?
The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me”

~ Matthew 25:35-40

Sing ‘N Celebrate, Celebrating Testimonies

snc-feature

January 8th at 5-6pm in the Felllowship Hall

We hope you will be available to appreciate the salvation testimonies of two members of our laity.  Eric Smith reminds us of the value of testimonies in church — “Testimonies make Gospel truth take on flesh and blood. It is one thing to hear a sermon on God’s grace; it is quite another to hear a brother or sister speak personally of his or her experience of God’s grace.”
