Christmas Music, Part 20 ~ O Little Town Of Bethlehem

O Little Town Of Bethlehem

“O Little Town of Bethlehem” is a popular Christmas carol. The text was written by Phillips Brooks (1835–1893), an Episcopal priest, Rector of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Philadelphia. He was inspired by visiting the Palestinian city of Bethlehem in 1865.

Three years later, he wrote the poem for his church and his organist, Lewis Redner, added the music. Redner’s tune, simply titled “St. Louis”, is the tune used most often for this carol in the United States.

Dick Van Dyke Candlelight Processional at Disneyland

This was a classic moment caught on video by Shadowgamer.

After reading Isaiah 9:6, it started to rain, so they brought him an umbrella. Dick angled the umbrella towards the sky and said, “I hope I don’t fly away,” as the crowd went wild in response to his Mary Poppins reference.

Then a group of MouseWaiters wished him a Happy Birthday and his response to that was priceless. Enjoy!

Dick Van Dyke reads “Gary the Newsboy”

Some years ago, actor Dick Van Dyke recorded some favorite holiday stories that originally appeared in the pages of Guideposts.

Give a listen to the fourth in this series of stories — and be sure to share this bit of Christmas spirit with friends and family!

A Salvation Army volunteer is reminded of the true meaning of Christmas when a newsboy places his workday’s meager earnings in the red bucket.
