disciples-path

Please join us this Sunday, September 27, in worship at the 8:15, 9:30 and 11:00 Services.

“A Disciple’s Path”

September 13 – October. 18, 2015

“A Disciple’s Path” guides individuals to take the next step in discipleship and become dynamic, engaged followers of Jesus Christ. The study combines a Wesleyan understanding of our growth in God’s love and grace with the time-tested practices of spiritual discipline expressed in the membership vows to uphold the church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Participants will develop spiritual practices, discover their unique gifts, and become engaged in ministry that brings transformation in their own lives, the lives of others, and the world.

September 27: The Priority of Presence ~Acts 2:42-47

Each of us has an instinctual desire to belong. Yet why do we spend so much time with our earbuds in, staring at our phones? Maybe that’s a symptom of something larger afoot. How can we better connect with one another and truly be present to one another?

Both Pastor Kenny & Pastor Dan will continue their sermon series based on our church-wide study, “A Disciple’s Path” and will be preaching on “The Path of Biblical Prayer” (Matthew 6:5-15)

Building intimacy in a human relationship requires careful attention and intentional discipline. In the same way, prayer is about cultivating a relationship with God and that also takes time. How do we do that?

Both Pastor Kenny & Pastor Dan will begin our new sermon series based on our church-wide study and will be preaching on “Defined by Grace” (Luke 10:25-28)

What is a disciple? As we walk a disciple’s path, it is not a path that wanders aimlessly through the woods. There is a destination we’re trying to reach. What is it? Join us and find out.

    Youth in Mission

You won’t want to miss hearing from two of our Pender youth who have already discovered the joy of serving — Kayla Moxley in Philippi and Katelyn Barone in Peru for the first time. When God sends us to serve, God also sends us blessings. Since we are in the hiring process for our new band, they won’t be with us for this SNC. However, Peter and Rachel Kotiah have graciously agreed to provide our praise music for this time of worship.

Today at Pender UMC

confession-feature

Please join us for a wonderful time of worship this Sunday, September 6th, at our 8:15, 9:30 & 11:00 worship services.

This Sunday, Bishop Cho has asked us to join with all of the United Methodist Churches and the African Methodist Episcopal Church denomination in observing a“Day of Confession, Repentance, Prayer & Commitment to End Racism.”

Pastor Kenny will be preaching at our 8:15 and 11:00 services and his sermon title for Sunday is “A Reminder from Ferguson.”

Pastor Dan will be preaching at our 9:30 Contemporary service and his sermon title for Sunday is “Jesus the Racist?” (Mark 7:24-30)

Events around our country in recent months and years prove that racism is still alive and well in America. “Yeah, but, I’m not racist,” we might say. And we would surely never call Jesus a racist, would we? What happens when Jesus is confronted by a person of a different race? What happens when the same might occur for us? Exploring these questions is a great first step. Join us on the journey.
