May 10: The Only Commandment with a Promise – Deuteronomy 5:16

HONOR your father and mother!  On Mother’s Day this sounds appropriate.  How do we do that?  What does that mean?  And if we do it there’s a promise.  Yes there is and some wonder why life has gone sour.  Let the Bible remind you of the foundation of success.

Happy Mother’s Day

mothers-day2
Mother’s Day is today, and we hope you’ll take some time this weekend to pay respects to your mother–or if that isn’t possible, to somebody in your life with who embodies the grace and wisdom we associate with godly mothers.

With the holiday in mind, we present several resources from Bible Gateway for mothers:

What’s a mom’s greatest responsibility?

A reflection from the Mom’s Devotional Bible challenges mothers to pass on to your children your faith in Jesus.

Pass It On

2 Timothy 1:5–7

Additional Scripture Readings: Deuteronomy 6:4–9; 1 Peter 3:15

Who introduced you to Jesus?

Perhaps it was a college roommate. Or your husband. Or a friend from a local women’s group. Maybe it was a minister or a youth group leader. And maybe, just maybe, it was your grandmother or even your mom.

What another did for you, God is asking you to do for your children: Pass along your faith in Jesus. How?

  • Make church a priority. Find a place of worship that welcomes children and works to make Jesus real to them. Then make it a point to attend regularly. Your children will grow with God as they bond to a place and to the people who teach them each week.
  • Set a “Jesus Time” at home. Take a few minutes each day to read together from the Bible, to pray for each other and to allow for questions about God. Keep it simple and short; make sure such times are age-specific and practical.
  • Use the teachable moments in the day. As you plant the garden, shop for groceries, take a walk, go about your daily chores, listen to your children and respond to their questions with information about God in the everyday.

Someone introduced you to Jesus. It’s now time for you, Mom, to pass it on to your children.
