Join Pender United Methodist Men near the Chesapeake Bay for a 3-day Stepping Up event designed for everyday guys who want more. The weekend is designed to empower guys to Step Up — at home, in friendships, in their marriages, at work, at church, in their faith.
You’ll meet ordinary guys and hear their stories of how they’ve stepped up and the remarkable benefits of getting more from life than they ever imagined. We’ll laugh, we’ll talk, we’ll play and we’ll challenge each other to Step Up.
Format: The Stepping Up Weekend will be led by Pender guys from all walks of life. Different ages, different perspectives, different experiences will mean that every man will be able to connect with one or more weekend leaders. We took the best of the FamilyLife’s four-part “Stepping Up” video event, which features experts like Dennis Rainey and Tony Dungy, and modified it to fit our weekend and church. We’ll be working from the video and accompanying workbook as well as adding in more stories from guys you know, and guys you’ll meet, on how their trusting God and following God and stepping up in their own lives.
But it’s not all heavy discussion, we’ll also have plenty of time to kick back and relax with other guys. Some guys (not me) will start each morning with an optional warm-up hike/run. We’ll have access to a low ropes course, a giant swing, hiking trails and we’ll most likely pull together a cut-throat game of touch football (weather depending – Ok, we’ll play even if it’s raining – mudball!). During Rec Time, guys will compete to the finish in cornhole, Kan Jam, or horseshoes. At night, we’ll hang out by the campfire, maybe sing a song, tell a couple of jokes (clean, hopefully, but not guaranteed), and catch up on the day’s events. There’ll be plenty of food throughout the weekend prepared by the expert chefs (Ok, it’s cafeteria food and they’re high school kids, but it’s not bad). And you’ll stay in luxurious 4-star accommodations (ok, it’s a cabin and BYO sleeping bag and pillow). But you’ll never find a better time to connect with other guys and learn about how God calls each man to Step up!
