Today, September 13, at Pender UMC

disciples-path

Please join us for a wonderful time of worship this Sunday, September 13th, at our 8:15, 9:30 & 11:00 worship services, as we kick-off our church-wide study, “A Disciple’s Path.”

Both Pastor Kenny & Pastor Dan will begin our new sermon series based on our church-wide study and will be preaching on “Defined by Grace” (Luke 10:25-28)

What is a disciple? As we walk a disciple’s path, it is not a path that wanders aimlessly through the woods. There is a destination we’re trying to reach. What is it? Join us and find out.

    Youth in Mission

You won’t want to miss hearing from two of our Pender youth who have already discovered the joy of serving — Kayla Moxley in Philippi and Katelyn Barone in Peru for the first time. When God sends us to serve, God also sends us blessings. Since we are in the hiring process for our new band, they won’t be with us for this SNC. However, Peter and Rachel Kotiah have graciously agreed to provide our praise music for this time of worship.

music-fun-header

MOMs, DADS, are you looking for a place to have fun and fellowship with your children and other parents? We begin our 3rd year on Sept. 18th at 10am on Fridays in the Cornerstone Room (Rm. 215). This program is for all parents and their children, ages 0 to 5.

The morning starts with 30 minutes of age appropriate interactive music followed by a snack and then playing with toys while the parents enjoy a time of fellowship and breakfast. These activities all take place in the same room.

This program continues though the school year and each semester there is a fee of $30 per family to cover the food and snacks.

Billy Graham: Introducing new church music can reach new people

unhappy-hymn

DEAR BILLY GRAHAM: Maybe I’m just old-fashioned, but from time to time our church’s music director introduces new songs into the service, and I don’t care for them. I like the old hymns, and wish he’d just stick with them. Should I complain to our pastor? — E.W.

DEAR E.W.: I know this has been a controversial issue in many churches, and I don’t pretend to have all the answers, especially since I’m not particularly musical! But we have a singing faith, and God has given us the gift of music to praise him. The Psalmist declared, “With singing lips my mouth will praise you” (Psalm 63:5).

Instead of complaining to your pastor (or anyone else), I urge you to ask God to help you be grateful for all music that points us to God, new or old. No, you may not like some of it, but others do, and God can use it in their lives to encourage them and bring them closer to Christ. Remember: The old hymns you like were once new, and someone probably didn’t like them, either!

Sometimes, I’m afraid, a hymn can become so familiar to us that we sing it without even thinking about the words. But this is wrong, because then our singing becomes empty and meaningless. Don’t let this happen to you, but meditate on the words of the songs you sing, and even turn them into a prayer.

Your music director has probably been wise to introduce new songs slowly; completely changing everything all at once can be disruptive. Pray for him and encourage him, letting him know that you’re grateful for his gifts. Yes, let him know you appreciate the old hymns, but support him also as he seeks to reach a new generation through music.

Today at Pender UMC ~ August 16, 2015

camp-meeting-cropped

Please join us for a wonderful time of worship this Sunday, August 16th!

At our 8:15 & 11:00 worship services, we return to a part of our heritage as Methodists, the Campmeeting. It will be a time to sing the old hymns and enjoy the upbeat worship, as we continue our sermon series entitled — HOLINESS: DO I REALLY LIVE DIFFERENTLY?

Pastor Kenny will be preaching on “Fruit Inspection Time” (John 15:5-8 Galatians 5:22-23)

To be holy means to live holy. That doesn’t come naturally but it does come when we are close to Jesus. Is your relationship such that you know you are as close to Jesus as you can be, as you desire? When we are there, are there things that just naturally become a part of our lives? Character changes take place naturally and aren’t forced to happen. How is the fruit in your life?

Pastor Dan will be preaching at the 9:30 Contemporary Service on the Sermon Series entitled OLD SCHOOL and his sermon title is “So that…”(John 15:1-8)

We don’t just follow lists of rules in the Bible and practice spiritual exercise for the fun of it. There’s a purpose in mind. If you pursue this purpose, we guarantee life will become more meaningful and fulfilling. Join us as we pursue this purpose together.
