Easter Week Services at Pender UMC

Easter Sunday Info:

– Please bring cut flowers from home to decorate the Resurrection Cross in the Sanctuary.

– Help decorate our Easter altar in the Sanctuary by purchasing flowers in honor or memory of a loved one. Pick up an order form located at our Sign Up Center in the Narthex. (Orders must be in by April 6^th and flowers may be taken home after the 11:00 am service.)

– Our Easter Offering will be distributed evenly between the Chris Atwood Foundation and 2 Students from Sudan at Africa University.

– There will be no Youth Group or Confirmation Class. Enjoy this special time with your families.

– Families, please consider bringing your family in one car to church to help with parking.

April 13. Palm Sunday: Give UP Being Fickle for Lent – Matthew 21:1-11 and Matthew 27:15-26.
It is Palm Sunday and we give praise but on Monday are we still faithful or do we act like the world? Fickleness is a must to be given up for Lent.

Book Lovers Group

The Book Lovers Group will meet Sunday, April 13th at 7:00 pm in the home of Anne Marie. The book this month is Gift from the Sea by Ann Morrow Lindberg. (Next month we will be reading The Engagements by J. Courtney Sullivan.)

Vacation Bible School Registration is open!

Pender’s 2014 summer Vacation Bible School will be held July 7-11, from 9:00 to 12:00 each morning,

VBS is open to children ages 3 through 6th grade (children MUST be potty trained – teachers will NOT change diapers).

Online registration began April 1, 2013 and will run to June 15, 2013 or when 250 children have registered, whichever comes first.

Pender Men – Upcoming Meetings

Regular 4th Wednesday Dinner Meetings:

Wednesday April 23rd:

Of note, guest speaker will be Mr. Hameed Afzali who spent 7 years as a top level interpreter for the US and coalition forces in Afghanistan. His experiences will provide a very different perspective regarding the war in Afghanistan vs. what we see on the news. Recently, Hameed and his family were identified as supporters of the coalition by the Taliban who threatened to kill all of them. Due to this high risk situation, he and his family were rapidly extricated by the State Department to the US under a special visa program. Currently, he is living in Silver Spring, MD with his wife and two children. Having arrived in the US with very little support, the NVMMO church coalition, of which Pender is a member, has been supporting Hameed and his family start their new life in America. We think you will find his story highly interesting.

Of note, find out the latest on Pender’s annual Fall Flea Market and Boutique, and sign up for cashier and grilling Thursday-Friday-Saturday 2-4 October. This is our biggest fundraiser so that we may supplement members’ short term mission trips and fund other service projects.
