Sing ‘N Celebrate, January 6, 2013

Sing "N Celebrate

We will begin our 17th year of Sing ‘N Celebrate with an opportunity to look back, as Christians, at our personal relationships with our Lord in 2012 – hoping that a fresh focus on strengthening these relationships will be realized and maintained during the New Year.

Even if we feel determined to keep our relationships with the Lord fresh and thriving, ALL Christians can fall short of where we expected to be in our spiritual walks. Andy Murphy will return to our Pender Stage as he portrays this circumstance which can enter our lives. But at any given time, we can start afresh, empowered by grace to return to an even deeper, more memorable, eternal life.

Join us as we come together with the full realization that Jesus couldn’t care more about our relationships with Him!!

Have a Blessed Christmas!

Blessed Christmas

The Pastors and Staff of Pender wish you and your family the most blessed of Christmases.

May the peace of that night, the news of the angels, the joy of the shepherds and the love of the Christ Child be yours as you make room for the Christ Child all year long.

Merry Christmas!

Journey to Bethlehem

Journey to Bethlehem

Advent Sermon Series ~ Journey to Bethlehem

Each Christmas is a journey! We make it from wherever we are to the manger. Mary and Joseph journeyed from Nazareth to Bethlehem on the First Christmas. What will our journey be like? Are there helps along the way? How do we really prepare to receive the King? Let’s see how we might journey together so that this Christmas we find the true meaning of Christmas – the Christ child.

Dec. 23 – From Nazareth to Bethlehem – Journey to a Manger – Luke 2:1-7

You can’t have Christmas without Bethlehem’s manger. For in it we find the reason for the season-the Christ child! As you have moved from store to store, house to house, party to party have you come to a manger yet? It took Mary and Joseph a long time to make that 90 mile trek, how long will it take us? Let’s talk about where to find Jesus this Christmas. Without him we have nothing but X-mas!

Pan Am Flight 103 (Lockerbie)

Pan Am Flight 103 Memorial Cairn

Pan Am Flight 103 Memorial Cairn

On December 21 at 1:30PM the Pender UMC Choir traditionally sings for the Pan Am Flight 103 (Lockerbie) Memorial Service at Arlington National Cemetery.

Last year was my first time experiencing this service and it was so touching.  One of the songs we sang is traditionally sung at this service –   “Under His Wings”, which was composed in memory of the victims. Last year was the 23rd anniversary of the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing.  A C-Span video of last year’s event (video run time is 1 hr 3 min): http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/Flight10

Last year’s speakers included:

Eric Holder, United States Attorney General
Robert Mueller, FBI Director
Frank Mulholland, Lord Advocate of Scotland
Ali Aujali, Libyan Ambassador to the Unites States
John O. Brennan, Deputy National Security Advisor and Assistant to the President
Brian Murtagh, Department of Justice Prosecutor for the Lockerbie case

For a full remarks about last year’s service, including speaker’s notes, please see http://www.victimsofpanamflight103.org/events/2011/arlington
