World Communion Sunday offers us an opportunity to experience Holy Communion in the context of the global community of faith.
The first Sunday of October has become a time when Christians in every culture break bread and pour the cup to remember and affirm Christ as the Head of the Church.
On that day, we remember that we are part of the whole body of believers.
Christians celebrate the communion liturgy in as many ways as there are congregations. World Communion Sunday can be both a profound worship experience and a time for learning more about our wider community of faith.
Because Pastor Bruce is away, we will celebrate at Pender next Sunday.

The days leading up to Easter often have an understandably somber feel to them, particularly as we contemplate Jesusβ arrest, trial, and execution. Itβs easy to forget that the week begins with a joyful event: the Triumphal Entry!
Sunday, March 28, 2021, is Palm Sunday, the first day of Holy Week. On Palm Sunday, we commemorate Jesusβ celebrated entry into Jerusalem just a few days before his arrest, trial, and crucifixion.
The βpalmβ in Palm Sunday refers to the palm branches waved by the adoring Jerusalem crowds who welcomed Jesus and proclaimed him King. The event is commonly referred to as the Triumphal Entry. Hereβs the account from Matthew 21:1-11:
As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, βGo to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.β
This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
βSay to Daughter Zion,
βSee, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.ββ
The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
βHosanna to the Son of David!β
βBlessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!β
βHosanna in the highest heaven!β
When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, βWho is this?β
The crowds answered, βThis is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.β
