This Week at Pender ~ March 14, 2013

 This Week at Pender

March 14, 2013

Sermon Series ~ Hard Questions
March 17th Sermon:
There is only ONE God and he just has different names RIGHT?
The Bible says there is ONE God.  But the Gods people talk about and believe in are so different.  One is involved in everything.  One never does anything but create what is.  One only judges.  Another only loves.  Are they all the same and it doesn’t matter what we believe as long as we believe in God?  Let’s see what the ONE and ONLY God is like and you can decide.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”

 (Deuteronomy 6:4)
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.  You shall have no other gods before me.”
(Exodus 20:1-3)

Empty Your Pockets!   Help Fight World Hunger!
Pender Turning Point Youth Group

is putting on a Penny War

to raise money for the World Vision 30 Hour Famine!

Each high school represented in the youth group has their own jar in which to collect the money. The jar that ends up with the highest number of points wins, and the youth who participated in the famine from that school gets a prize!

How it works:

Pennies and paper money are positive points.

(For example a penny would be +1 point and a $5 bill would be +500 points)

All silver change is counted as negative points.

(So nickels are -5, dimes are -10, and quarters are -25.)

Put your pennies and paper money in your own high school’s jar!

Put silver change in your rival’s jar!

The jars will be out until the end of March.

Going Shopping?

Pender ReGift Thrift Store

Going shopping this weekend? Remember the Pender ReGift Thrift Store.

Pender ReGift Thrift Store is an outreach ministry of Pender United Methodist Church. Our nonprofit mission is the distribution of material goods to the poor, locally, nationally, and internationally. We are the only church around with a 5,000 sq ft warehouse and a loading dock. Working with for-profit, nonprofit, and government partners, we maximize our nonprofit potential. Our thrift store supports our nonprofit mission. We are family friendly.

Being thrifty, seeking value, or frugality, are all generally given a bad rap, but in this tough economic climate, you can defend your right to be smart.
(703) 378-7371
Our thrift store, offers a wide variety of unique items. Our furniture includes beds, couches, sofa beds, office chairs, tables, desks, cabinets, filing cabinets, baby furniture, and lawn furniture. All uphostered items have been sanitized in accordance with government regulations. Our gently-used clothing has been carefully sorted and sized. We have a wide variety of accessories including hats, shoes, purses, belts, and scarves. Our electronics department has a wide variety of computer equipment, including keyboards, monitors, printers, microwaves, and other small appliances. We carry big appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washers, and dryers. We have toys, sports equipment, linens, and lawn tools. Our books and media include DVDs, CDs, audio books, fiction, nonfiction, classics, a wide variety of children’s chapter books and early readers. We specialize in books for teachers and students. Our nonfiction books are organized including cookbooks, spiritual books, personal finance books, history and biography. Bibles are always free.

Our mission cannot be accomplished without your help! Everything we sell or give has been given to us. We do not accept consignments. We ask that you make sure your material donation is gently-used and clean before you bring it to us. Your financial support allows us to give more to those in need. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax-deductible.

We are also assisted by our volunteers. We have opportunities in volunteer coordination, advertising and marketing, in testing electronics, in sorting and pricing clothing and household goods. It feels good to make a difference!

Our hours are 11am – 7pm Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and 10am-6pm Fridays and Saturdays. Please stop by to donate, shop, or volunteer. Join our newsletter for weekly updates and coupons!
