Register for the Men’s Stepping Up Weekend

stepping-up

Early Bird Discount Registration Price of only $80 for entire weekend! Covers room, board, materials and a t-shirt! Discount ends soon.

Join Pender United Methodist Men near the Chesapeake Bay for a 3-day Stepping Up event designed for everyday guys who want more. The weekend is designed to empower guys to Step Up — at home, in friendships, in their marriages, at work, at church, in their faith.

You’ll meet ordinary guys and hear their stories of how they’ve stepped up and the remarkable benefits of getting more from life than they ever imagined. We’ll laugh, we’ll talk, we’ll play and we’ll challenge each other to Step Up.

Format: The Stepping Up Weekend will be led by Pender guys from all walks of life. Different ages, different perspectives, different experiences will mean that every man will be able to connect with one or more weekend leaders. We took the best of the FamilyLife’s four-part “Stepping Up” video event, which features experts like Dennis Rainey and Tony Dungy, and modified it to fit our weekend and church. We’ll be working from the video and accompanying workbook as well as adding in more stories from guys you know, and guys you’ll meet, on how their trusting God and following God and stepping up in their own lives.

But it’s not all heavy discussion, we’ll also have plenty of time to kick back and relax with other guys. Some guys (not me) will start each morning with an optional warm-up hike/run. We’ll have access to a low ropes course, a giant swing, hiking trails and we’ll most likely pull together a cut-throat game of touch football (weather depending – Ok, we’ll play even if it’s raining – mudball!). During Rec Time, guys will compete to the finish in cornhole, Kan Jam, or horseshoes. At night, we’ll hang out by the campfire, maybe sing a song, tell a couple of jokes (clean, hopefully, but not guaranteed), and catch up on the day’s events. There’ll be plenty of food throughout the weekend prepared by the expert chefs (Ok, it’s cafeteria food and they’re high school kids, but it’s not bad). And you’ll stay in luxurious 4-star accommodations (ok, it’s a cabin and BYO sleeping bag and pillow). But you’ll never find a better time to connect with other guys and learn about how God calls each man to Step up!

Week 1 Shift Happens Small Group Discussion Guides

shifthappens-feature

Week 1
9/11/16

Let’s face it: everybody experiences shift from time to time. Jobs change, health declines, relationships turn and our emotional equilibrium is thrown off course. Yet, often in these moments God is preparing us for what’s next. How can we embrace God’s best next without successfully navigating change along the way?

Read: Exodus 16:1-3

God’s people started grumbling as soon as they stepped into the wilderness. Do you ever grumble? What causes your grumbling?

Read: Exodus 3:1-14

Moses had a holy encounter with God and in his fear gave God excuses. What is God asking you to do? What are your excuses?

Read: Psalm 23

Shift happens in our lives, and sometimes we are not prepared for it. What does God promise in this Psalm? What shift is happening in your life where you need to grab hold of this promise?

Read: I Chronicles 28:11-21

David gave his son Solomon a job: build the temple. What instructions did he give his son? What words of encouragement? What sources of motivation are you listening to that are helping you overcome hesitation and fear: people, podcasts, sermons, reading scripture, etc.? What are you hearing from God?

Read: John 14:23-31

Jesus gathered his disciples to speak into their lives prior to his death. What does Jesus promise in the middle of fear and anxiety? How are you allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and direct you in the middle of change?

Read: Exodus 16:11-20

God provided daily bread for his people in the wilderness. How were the people to use God’s provision? Did they listen? God’s people struggled with trust—do you struggle to trust God for daily provision? Explain.

Read: 1 John 4:16-21

God’s perfect love casts out all fear. What keeps you afraid? How can God’s love rid your life of that fear?

Sing ‘N Celebrate, Sept. 11th at 5-6pm

in-remembrance

Sing ‘N Celebrate, Sept. 11th @ 5-6pm in the Fellowship Hall

According to an anonymous writer on the internet – “In times of turmoil and tragedy, First Responders are the people who run toward the crisis. They never ask for our gratitude, but they certainly deserve it.” We can express our appreciation for these heroes by attending this SNC where Capt. Jim Wasem of the Arlington Police Dept. will share.

We hope you can join in the fellowship over the good food of the potluck which will follow. Just bring a side dish or a dessert to share please. We are joining with the youth group, and Tim will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs.
